TICKETS, PLEASE

"Tickets, Please" is an interactive, research-based art project exploring the hidden layers of Italian culture through Rome's "talking" graffiti.

During a month-long residency, over a thousand examples of graffiti across Rome were documented - writings that give voice to everyday people on topics ranging from politics to poetry. These collected pieces form an online archive at ticketsplease.info, where visitors can browse the collection, map locations, and uncover the distinct tones of different neighborhoods.

The archive can also be accessed through a recreated "ATAC" ticket machine covered in street tags. Visitors select a stop to "travel" to through Rome, and the machine dispenses a ticket featuring a graffiti from that location. This use of public transport iconography nods to the historical connection between transit systems and the birth of modern street art.
